A conservative is a
man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned to walk
forward--Franklin D. Roosevelt
Thanks
to Jerry Earwood and to all the volunteers who went door-to-door registering
voters last weekend before the deadline. We had great weather for the
last-minute registration drive, and we are hoping that these new voters come out
on November 2 and make a difference.

Fact
Check--In
case you missed it, here is the website that Cheney inadvertently (we assume)
directed viewers to visit during the VP debate: http://www.georgesoros.com/. Factcheck
(dot-com, not dot-org) apparently redirected visitors to Mr. Soros’s site with a
twinkle in their eyes once they realized the VP’s error. Here’s some of what
millions of folks checking for facts discovered Tuesday night and most of
Wednesday when they followed Cheney’s advice:
Why
We Must Not Re-elect President Bush
This
is the most important election of my lifetime. I have never been heavily
involved in partisan politics but these are not normal times. That is why I am
sharing this message. I have been demonized by the Bush campaign but I hope you
will give me a hearing.
President
Bush ran on the platform of a ‘humble’ foreign policy in 2000. If we re-elect
him now, we endorse the Bush doctrine of preemptive action and the invasion of
Iraq, and we will have to live with the consequences. As I shall try to show, we
are facing a vicious circle of escalating violence with no end in sight. But if
we repudiate the Bush policies at the polls, we shall have a better chance to
regain the respect and support of the world and to break the vicious circle. . .

Don’t
forget to pick up your copy of Fahrenheit
9/11
if you haven’t already done so. Michael Moore’s award-winning documentary is
available on DVD now. It’s definitely worth a second
(or third, or fourth) look, assuming you’ve already seen it once. Convince your
skeptical friends to watch it, too (here’s a tip: they’ll be more likely to
watch it if you watch it with them).
Speaking
of Michael Moore, be sure to check out his website http://www.michaelmoore.com/ for lots of
interesting articles and links. While you’re there, find out why the Michigan
Republican Party wants to have Moore arrested (Hint: it has something to do with
free underpants).
